APRIL is a great month for live entertainment in Carlisle, with stellar comedy and musical acts visiting the city’s venues.

On April 10, Gail Porter will bring her show ‘Hung Drawn and Portered’ to the Old Fire Station, promising a ‘hilarious stand up show’.

On April 19, The Vintage Explosion will bring their brand of rhythm and blues to the same venue, bringing a critically acclaimed sound of the 50s following the release of their debut album “Havin’ Such a Good Time”.

Magic Men Australia will bring the heat and have audiences weak at the knees at the OFS on April 17, supplying heaps of hot hunks dancing as part of an act which is popular worldwide.

Also at the Old Fire Station, Chris Helme will perform a set on April 25.

Known as being among the finest singer-songwriters on the circuit today, he rose to fame in the 90s as frontman of the indie band The Seahorses and is now producing folky tracks solo.

Local indie legends Rubakai will come to The Brickyard on April 12 after a six-year hiatus, with support from Carlisle band Indie Street Club.

The Brickyard will also host its regular music quiz on April 25, an opportunity to show who knows the most and compete as a team of up to six people.

The Royal Northern Sinfonia’s Angela Hewitt will perform a concert at The Sands Centre.

Recognised as one of today’s greatest pianists and a Mozart specialist, she will play two of his piano concertos on April 28.

At The Source in Denton Holme, rock/grunge act A New Nowhere will headline, along with band Breakables, for a set sure to rock the crowd on April 13.

Also at The Source, Lille-based three-piece rock group Naked Soft Men will perform with Nat Dempsey after the release of their second EP this month, on April 14.

Several other acts this month are sold out, including a comedy set by Russel Kane, an evening with author Kerry Irving, and club night event Kickin It Country, all at the Old Fire Station.
