Cumberland Council is hosting a free Artisan Fete at the Distington Walled Garden this Saturday (April 13).

Following the success of similar past events, the council hopes again to highlight the talents of craftspeople and vendors in the area.

The spring event will run from 10am until 4pm, featuring a variety of businesses showcasing crafts and an outdoor market.

Visitors will see a diverse array of handmade items, including leather goods, candles, soft furnishings and woodcarvings.

The recently opened café, located within Distington Walled Garden, will be open from 10am to 2pm for food and will continue serving cakes and scones from 2pm to 3pm.

One of the highlights at the previous event was the appearance of alpacas and pygmy goats, sure to delight visitors all over again.

The animals will be at the event until about 1pm, providing an opportunity for visitors to learn about and interact with them.

For a small fee, people can even lead the alpacas on a short walk.

Councillor Anne Quilter, Cumberland Council’s executive member for vibrant and healthy places, said: "Previous events at Distington Victorian Walled Garden have been a great success.

"This event will showcase local businesses and will be a fun-filled day for the whole family, with plenty of entertainment to be enjoyed.

“The Artisan Fete will feature a wide range of stalls catering to the varied interests of visitors, including different food stalls, leather goods, soft furnishings, macrame and candles.

“If you're looking for an event that has something for everyone, look no further. This is an event that offers an incredible experience that you won't want to miss.”

The fete is open to all and is free to enter.
