Part of the A66 is closed in both directions following a ‘serious’ crash involving two vehicles.
According to National Highways, the crash has resulted in a closure between the A6 at Penrith to the A685 at Brough.
The road is expected to be closed for some time.
Emergency services are currently on scene.
The incident was reported at around 6.45pm (April, 13).
Diversion routes:
Westbound traffic are advised to follow the route marked by the solid triangle diversion symbol, visible on local road signs:
Exit the A66 at the A685 Brough junction.
Join the A685 southwards to Kirkby Stephen and westwards to Tebay.
Join M6 at J38 (Tebay) and proceed North to rejoin A66 at J40 (Skirsgill).
Eastbound traffic are advised to follow the route marked by the solid square diversion symbol, visible on local road signs:
From A6/A66 roundabout take A66 westbound to M6 J40.
From M6 J40 take M6 southbound to J38
Exit M6 at J38 and take A685 northeast through Kirkby Stephen
Rejoin A66 at Brough bypass
**Please note that there is a low bridge on the A685 so the above diversions are not suitable for vehicles of 14ft '6' (4.45m) or over. These vehicles will be diverted via local routes**
