Cumbrian swimmer Luke Greenbank will compete in his second Olympic Games this summer.

The Cockermouth star has been named in the Team GB squad for Paris 2024.

Greenbank's selection was confirmed by the British Olympic Association on Tuesday.

It follows some strong recent performances by the backstroke star.

Greenbank, who spent his formative years at Cockermouth Swimming Club, is in a 33-strong squad that will compete in the France Games.

The Cumbrian, 26, will be out to emulate some of his success from the previous Olympics in Tokyo, when he brought home two medals.

Greenbank had achieved the necessary time in the men's 200m backstroke at the recent British Aquatics Championships to be considered for selection for the summer Games.

His time of 1:56.39, which saw him a narrow runner-up to automatic qualifier Oliver Morgan, was inside the benchmark time of 1:57.28.

That convinced the Team GB selectors to back Greenbank, who won bronze in the men's 200m backstroke in Tokyo 2020 as well as helping GB to silver in the 4x100m medley.

He is also the British record holder in the 200m backstroke.

Team GB chef de mission Mark England said: “Team GB has a proud tradition in Olympic swimming competitions, and I am delighted to welcome all 33 athletes to the team for Paris 2024.

"The strength and depth of our pool swimming team was evident to see at the recent Aquatics GB Swimming Championships, and along with the ten swimmers making their debut for Team GB it is fantastic to welcome back seven Olympic champions and nine Olympic medallists.

Head coach Bill Furniss said: "The swimmers have come through a tough selection process and earned the chance to show what they are capable of on the Olympic stage. We have a mix of proven experience and some exciting new talent, and our relay strength is encouraging in many events.

"The challenge for everyone on the team is to maximise the final months of preparation and produce their best performance of the season in the Olympic arena."
