AMBA Gobie and Jonathan Wood, aged 33, 'danced the night away' as they opted for a 'non-traditional' wedding at the Hidden River Cabins in Carlisle.

The couple met when they were seventeen in the local pub, the Wheatsheaf in Gosforth, and have been together since.

Jonathan proposed six years ago when they were out walking in their favourite place, Keswick.

For his stag, Jonathan, who runs a garage, decided to go paintballing and then back to the local Gosforth Hall Inn for food and drinks.

Meanwhile, Amba, a health and safety advisor, had some drinks and games at her aunt’s house, followed by a meal and a night out - which ended with dancing on tables in the local pubs until 3am!

The pair married at the Carlisle venue on March 28, 2024.

The pair had seventy-five guests in total, both daytime and evening.

Their ceremony was at 1pm. Amba's dress was an Essence of Australia dress from Songbird in Keswick.

Jonathan was in a suit from Marc Darcy at Goodfellows in Carlisle.

The wedding breakfast was served at 3.30pm. Each place setting had a wooden name tag with sprigs of lavender. They opted for a pan-Asian platter for the wedding breakfast, including beef rendang, Katsu Chicken, and tempura broccoli.

“We also had a three-tier cake made by the fantastic Wren Cakes," Amba said. "It had three layers: the bottom layer was dark chocolate, hazelnut, and salted caramel; the middle layer was champagne, elderflower, and rhubarb; and the top layer was sticky toffee.

"It was the most excellent cake I have ever tasted!"

“The photographer and videographer were also amazing," she added. "I have loved seeing the preview images they sent over; they are beautiful, and I can’t wait to see the result.

“We wanted a very untraditional day, with everything that we like to do/eat. This meant no speeches or first dance, tasty food, and a good party."

Guests were entertained by fire dancers, people on stilts, and other amazing acts, which many, including the couple, said was the best moment of the day.

Amba said: “The fire dancing was our favourite part of the wedding. The atmosphere was electric, and everyone was dancing to the show.

“Hidden River Cabins is an incredible place, and they made planning a wedding an absolute breeze. We had the most fantastic day and wish to do it again!”
