Penrith MP, Dr Neil Hudson is backing the campaign for a memorial to the late Dame Vera Lynn CH, who famously sang “We’ll meet again” and “The White Cliffs of Dover”.
The MP joined almost 100 fellow MPs, led by Dover’s Natalie Elphicke, in writing to the Prime Minister calling for the Government to provide funding to complete the memorial.
Dame Vera, who passed away in 2020, made an enormous contribution to our country’s morale in the Second World War through her iconic voice.

Local groups and individuals have worked hard to raise funds for the memorial project. They have made great progress led by Dame Vera’s daughter, Virginia and son-in-law Tom.
Dr Neil Hudson MP said: “Dame Vera Lynn was a great Briton who made an enormous contribution to our country.
"With just 3 out of 100 statues commemorating women, this memorial will make an important difference - not only honouring Dame Vera's legacy but inspiring women and girls for generations to come."
