A wellbeing charity in Carlisle was delighted to receive more than £300,000 via The National Lottery Community Fund.
iCan Wellbeing Group was awarded a substantial grant of £320,000 from the largest community funder in the UK.
The transformative grant will be distributed over five years to support vital initiatives aimed at enhancing the health and wellbeing of individuals across Cumbria.
Over the past year, iCan Wellbeing Group, has worked tirelessly towards securing this funding, recognising the impact it will have on the community.
COO Lisa Bridgewater said: "This is an enormous feat of achievement for us at iCan Wellbeing Group. We are passionate and dedicated to the health and wellbeing of our county and are thrilled we can offer free health and wellbeing support at such a critical time of need with the state of the nation's economy and cost of living crisis.
"We believe health and wellbeing incentives to get people moving and socialising should be free to all and now we have the opportunity to make that a reality."
The grant will enable iCan Wellbeing Group to implement several impactful initiatives aimed at improving the overall health and happiness of individuals in Cumbria. These initiatives include providing free fitness services to individuals living on low incomes, those with mental health needs, or those awaiting surgery/on long NHS waiting lists.
Free wellbeing sessions will also cover activities such as writing for wellbeing, meditation, wellbeing courses, and social activities. Additionally, support will be provided to help individuals discover their purpose through the practice of Ikigai, a Japanese philosophy focused on finding fulfilment through meaningful activities.
Finally, rural support for Cumbria young farmers will establish a dedicated health and wellbeing presence for Cumbria Young Farmers, focusing on addressing the unique challenges faced by young rural communities.
Lisa added: "We are thrilled to have the opportunity to expand our services and support more people's health and wellbeing in the county. This grant is a testament to the dedication of our team and the generosity of National Lottery players. Together, we can make a real difference in the lives of individuals across Cumbria."
