A PLOT of land in Whitehaven which is currently used as a car park is set to go up for auction.

The piece of land, located on New Street in the town centre, will go up for auction at the end of May with a guide price of £20,000.

It is located in a central part of the town between Lowther Street and Duke Street and is within less than a mile of both Whitehaven and Corkickle railway stations.

The car park is to go on sale on Thursday, May 30, at 12pm at The Halston Hotel at Warwick Road in Carlisle.

Auction House Cumbria said that the car park currently produces a gross income in excess of £3,000 per annum and has the potential to be developed.

They said: "Planning was granted in 1993 by Copeland Borough Council for the erection of three flats.

"This has obviously now lapsed but interested parties should make their own inquiries to Cumberland Council regarding any future development."
