TESCO has revealed they aim to open a new convenience store in Penrith in 2025.
The confirmation of plans follows after an application submission to Westmorland & Furness Council by Tesco Stores Limited revealed that they were seeking a premises license on agricultural land next to Carleton Hall Farm, Carleton Avenue.
The Tesco Express got initial approval from Westmorland & Furness Council's planning authority on January 12 earlier this year, although it hadn’t been confirmed which outlet was involved in the proposal.
The original application was put forward by North Lakes Estates Limited on June 16, 2023.
In its initial planning statement, it addressed the convenience store to be an advantage to the local community.
"The significant and most obvious benefit of the proposal will be the new retail offering local to a high number of residential properties and accessed directly off an A-road", it reads.
The projected store is expected to create around 20 job opportunities.
These would comprise a mix of full-time and part-time roles.
The Tesco Express plan includes the creation of 19 car parking spaces and will operate from 6am to midnight, Monday to Sunday.
