Dalston is set to enjoy lightning-fast broadband courtesy of the Government's Project Gigabit and Fibrus.

The rural village in Cumbria will soon be connected to Full Fibre, greatly boosting internet speeds in the area.

The work, which is part of a £108 million government contract, will be carried out by teams and contractors from Fibrus. These developments form part of a larger initiative by Fibrus to bring high-speed connectivity to tens of thousands in rural Cumbria.

Fibrus pledged to keep disturbances to residents and businesses to a minimum during the build. Project Gigabit's aim is to bring reliable, speedy broadband to communities that have previously been hard to reach across the UK.

Dalston residents who have queries or concerns about the changes can get in touch with Fibrus.

In order to check if a specific home can be connected to the Fibrus network, residents are encouraged to enter their postcode and register their interest on the company's website.

Fibrus' investment in Cumbria extends beyond just the digital realm. The Fibrus Community Fund has invested £60,000 in the last year to combat digital poverty.

Among the beneficiaries of this generosity are Carlisle's new radio station, Radio FM Limited, and Carlisle Sight Support.

Additionally, the company's Play it Forward fund has been providing grants to approximately 20 local sports clubs, including Carlisle Youth Zone and Carlisle Rugby Club.

They have also sponsored the Fibrus 100, the premier cricket league for girls in Cumbria.

Chris Collins, head of network build at Fibrus, said: "At Fibrus, we use a full-fibre optic cable all the way to the premises creating a quality and reliability that cannot be achieved any other way.

"This will make a big difference to local businesses and families in Dalston, allowing them to access more reliable broadband rather than having to rely on slow copper wires for their internet.

"Once the work is complete, people will be able to take advantage of Fibrus’ Full Fibre Broadband, with speeds of up to 1Gb."

The Government’s minister for data and digital Julia Lopez said: "Residents and visitors to Dalston will soon be able to tap into lightning-fast broadband, thanks to the £108 million we're investing to upgrade rural homes and businesses across Cumbria.

"The government’s Project Gigabit is the biggest broadband rollout in British history, delivering fast, reliable internet in underserved locations. We are rolling these networks out faster than any other country in Europe, and it means patchy broadband in remote villages and towns will soon be a thing of the past, opening up a world of possibilities to improve lives and drive growth."
