A MAN has been charged with misuse of 999 following reports of a firearm in Carlisle city centre yesterday (May, 15).
Ben Addison, aged 26, of Melbourne Road, Carlisle was charged last night by detectives and has been remanded.
Initially Addison was arrested on suspicion of firearm possession following reports on May 15.
He was detained near the Lanes shopping centre amidst a visible armed police presence.
A spokesperson from Cumbria Police said: "From further enquires carried out, it has been established that the individual never had access to a firearm and there was no firearm involved in the incident yesterday."
He is due to appear before Carlisle Magistrates Court today (May, 16).
