A pair of Carlisle United podcasts are set to raise around £2,000 after hosting a charity football match.

The match at Gretna FC 2008's Raydale Park on Saturday, May 18 saw The Last Ditch Podcast take on the Blue Army Podcast with all proceeds donated to local mental health charity Carlisle Eden Mind.

Around 120 people were in attendance at Raydale Park as The Last Ditch Podcast, fronted by event organisers Daniel Morris and Oli Caig, ended up 4-1 winners to claim the inaugural cup.

News and Star: In the months since the match was announced, The Last Ditch Podcast and Blue Army Podcast have been fiercely supported by the local community, with the pair receiving supportive messages from Carlisle United co-owner Nick DeMasi and manager Paul Simpson.

The former also trained with Tracy Gannon's Carlisle United Ladies in the run-up to the match and welcomed fellow podcasters from America for the event.

After the match concluded, Oli Caig was on hand to describe the experience.

He said: "It was surreal, there is no other way to describe it really.

"We have gone from sitting on Dan's couch talking about God knows what to playing football in front of over 100 people... it is a mental thing we have done in such a short space of time, and all the support really blew me away.

News and Star: To promote mental health awareness, as well as raising money for Carlisle Eden Mind, the charity match was also attended by Andy's Mans Club.

For Daniel, the match's focus on mental health and raising money for charity struck a personal chord and he expressed his pride at being able to support an important local organisation.

He said: "I was really proud of it.

"I actually got quite emotional during the minute's applause we did because it meant a lot to me.

News and Star: "I have dealt with a lot of things and that all came to a head in 2021... this was a culmination of everything I have done since then.

"Raising money for the charity is a good thing but I think the way we have done it is amazing."
