Two fell walkers were located by a mountain rescue team on Saturday May 18 after getting lost with no equipment.
Two walkers called for assistance via Cumbria Police, reporting themselves lost on Cold Fell, near Brampton.
Fortunately they had a reasonable mobile phone signal, and the Penrith Mountain Rescue Team were able to use the “phone find” system to locate them.
However, the pair were not equipped with a map, compass, or torches, other than phones, which now had limited battery remaining. Due to the lack of equipment, and it now being dark, there was no option to talk them down from the fell, so a full team call was made and team members made their way to the phone find location and escorted the walkers back to their vehicle.
Penrith MRT wrote: "Please do remember to take suitable equipment with you on your adventures, at the very least it may help us to help you, but it may even prevent you from needing any assistance at all.
"Also, take a look at www.adventuresmart.uk a website full of information to help you adventure in the hills in a smarter way."
The rescue involved 13 Penrith team members and took four hours and nine minutes to complete.
