AN ‘EYESORE’ former play park site ‘looks a million times better’ after being given a facelift.

Bransty play park in Whitehaven closed a number of years ago and the site, which looks over the Irish Sea, was in a state of disrepair.

Bransty Community Group and Cumberland Council’s parks and open spaces team have worked together to improve the appearance of the land.

The open spaces team removed the remnants of the old play park and seeded the area. Grass is now growing back on the site.

Joseph Ghayouba, who represents Bransty on Cumberland Council, said: "The former playpark site was an eyesore.

“After arranging a meeting between Bransty Community group and the open spaces team we agreed to have the felt removed and the area tidied and seeded. it looks a million times better than before.

“This is just the beginning, and we hope to be able to announce our plans for the land in the near future."

Earlier this year, Bransty Community Group was given community interest company (CIC) status which means it can apply for funding and work towards its long-term goal of getting a play park on the estate.
