IN this edition of nostalgia, we are going back in time to 1973 and looking back at the moment, the current Miss World opened the new Co-op in Cockermouth.
Miss world of 1973, Belinda Green came along to Cockermouth to open the new Co-op and was greeted by lots of fans.
Photos show a helping hand for one of the customers during the opening of Cockermouth new Co-op. Belinda also signs autographs for the crowds that gathered the greet her.
There was a kiss for a beauty queen, as a little boy pecks Belinda Green. Another photo shows the crowds gather outside the Co-op on Station Street in Cockermouth waiting for the arrival of Miss World 1973.
One of the lucky customers also received a bouquet from Belinda Green at the official opening of the Co-op.
In the background of some of the pictures, you can see adverts for things on sale in the new shops. Some signage includes Babycham on sale for just 42p. Other signs include 'Double Dividend Stamps' and Ponti products.
The Co-op in Cockermouth was also home to the Post Office, however the shop is now unfortunately closed after the current post master has resigned. The Post Office earlier this year proposed to open a new branch on the same street, Station Street in the shop formerly occupied by Firns Home Hardware Store.
Having a celebrity open a new supermarket is a rarity compared to what it once was, Belinda Green opned the Cockermouth Co-op and the Tesco Victoria Viaduct Store has a celebrity appearance when it opened just two years before.
