A Carlisle family are fundraising to help their daughter achieve her dream of competing in a horse riding championships this summer.

Ten-year-old Layla Nicol earned her spot at the Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) National Championships after securing first place finishes in dressage and arts and crafts, as well as a third place finish in the countryside challenge competition which took place in Morpeth on May 22.

Her mother Ailsa has now set up a fundraiser to try and help get her to Gloucester for the national competition at Hartpury College in Gloucester in July.

Layla has ridden with Riding for the Disabled Carlisle at Blackdyke Riding School for the past two years, and they will have five representatives in total at the July championships.

Ailsa said: "This has always been Layla's dream and she's put so much hard work into this. She's come so far. We would be grateful if anyone would be able to help donate to help us pay for things like fuel and a hotel.

"Your help would be greatly appreciated by us all."

The family are aiming to raise £1,300 and have so far received £75 in donations on their GoFundMe page.
