A popular national running club has officially launched in Carlisle this month.
Fordy Runs Running Group was originally set up by Chris Ford, a father who felt out of shape following the birth of his daughters.
It has expanded into the largest, most inclusive running group in the UK, with over 40 'satellite' clubs set up across the country.
Now, thanks to mother and daughter duo Louise and Bethany Duffy, the group has arrived in Carlisle.
Bethany said: "I'm thrilled that Fordy Runs, the largest running club in the UK, is coming to Carlisle. It has a unique hybrid model that combines a Global Run Crew and Satellite Clubs, meaning you can meet fellow Fordy's wherever you go.
"Fordy's aim is to increase the number of satellite clubs, providing more opportunities for runners of all levels to join the group. Whether you're a seasoned athlete or just starting out, you're more than welcome to be a part of our community.
"Fordy Runs is all about inclusivity, having fun, and embracing the joy of running together!
It will primarily be a social run, offering a relaxed environment to enjoy running with like-minded individuals."
The group met for the first time on Thursday May 16, and now meet weekly at 6pm at The Near Boot Inn, a historic pub on the outskirts of Carlisle.
Attendees can sign up as either a social member or affiliated member. Social members can join for free, while affiliated members pay £20, which grants you access to the Fordy Runs community Facebook and Strava groups, discount codes with brand partners and a club newsletter.
Bethany and Louise are regulars at Parkruns across the country and have also been with the Fordy Runs club for over a year, so it is perhaps no surprise that they were the ones to ensure that Carlisle now has its own club.
They said: "We have been part of the Global Run Crew for over a year now and absolutely love everything Fordy Runs stands for - being inclusive, having fun and enjoying running. Let's make Carlisle a massive success together."
