A MOTORIST who got behind the wheel while under the influence of alcohol and cocaine has been given a suspended prison sentence.

Jordan Malkinson, 28, drove a Seat Ibiza on Ashlea Road in Egremont on December 20 last year.

He was involved in a collision and left the scene then attempted to avoid detection.

Malkinson had 140mlg of alcohol per 100ml of blood. The legal limit to drive is 80mlg.

He had 14mcg of cocaine per litre of blood. The specified limit is 10mcg. He also had cocaine in his possession.

Malkinson, of The Larches, Egremont, pleaded guilty to driving with alcohol above the limit, driving with a specified drug over the limit and possessing a Class A drug.

Magistrates sitting in Workington suspended a 12-week prison sentence for 12 months due to the defendant’s ‘realistic prospect of rehabilitation’.

Malkinson was given 120 days of alcohol abstinence and monitoring and was banned from driving for 36 months.

He was fined £553 and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £221 victim surcharge. An order was made for the forfeiture and destruction of the drugs.
