COUNCILLOR Graham Roberts has been nominated as the mayor of Whitehaven and chairman of the Town Council.
In the annual meeting held at The Beacon Portal on Wednesday, May 29, councillor Roberts replaced Chris Hayes as mayor of Whitehaven.
Councillor Hayes proposed the nomination and it was seconded by councillor Robert White. He was given a unanimous vote.
After being appointed councillor Roberts moved onto the next item on the agenda, to nominate a deputy mayor.
He said: "It requires a lot of work as it is a busy job with a lot happening around the town and in the council.
"It could mean you would be called out at unsociable hours."
He then nominated councillor Hayes with this being seconded by Alan Spedding.
Councillor Edwin Dinsdale nominated Ryan Taylor but there was no seconder so this was folded.
Six voted in favour of Chris Hayes being deputy mayor with Ryan Taylor abstaining and Edwin Dinsdale going against the decision.
Councillor Hayes was then appointed as the deputy mayor of Whitehaven.
