Cumberland Council have confirmed that the Bitts Park play area is now officially reopen following the damage by floods in Carlisle last week.

The local park was forced to close its play area after a huge amount of rain caused flooding in the border city, leaving parts of the park underwater.

It remained closed over the bank holiday weekend, despite the improvement in weather conditions.

On Wednesday May 30, Cumberland Council confirmed that the play area was now open again, although the sand pit and splash pad areas still need some work done before they can be used again.

Cumberland Council wrote: "Following flooding last week, Bitts Park play area has re-opened, with the exception of the splash pad and sand pit.

"We will deep clean and recommission the splash pad next week.

"The skate park on Devonshire Walk has also been fully cleaned and re-opened. The Bitts Park outdoor exercise area is open again too.

"Thanks for patience and understanding during the recent temporary closures."
