A LIFELONG Haven fan has received a special award in thanks for his dedication to the rugby club.
Shaun Drinkwater, 55, of Kells, was presented with a community award from Whitehaven Town Council by outgoing mayor, Chris Hayes.
Over the years, Shaun’s fundraising has helped buy vital equipment for Whitehaven RLFC including a tractor for the groundsman and training equipment for the head coach, as well as helping to bring players to the club with visas.
He also organises transport for fans when Whitehaven play away and has taken supporters all over the country.
Shaun said: “I’m very humbled to receive the award from the mayor. I would like to dedicate the award to the Whitehaven fans and Simon Taylor for supporting me for many years with fundraising. It’s much appreciated.”
Chris Hayes, former mayor of Whitehaven, said: “That man is amazing – what he has done for Whitehaven Rugby League. He’s well-respected in Whitehaven.
“He has raised a lot of money, not just for Whitehaven RL but for BEE Unique, as well.”
