100 pieces of artwork featuring artists from all around Cumbria are being prepared for display in Edinburgh.

Fresh off the back of an exhibition at the esteemed Venice Biennale, Proseed Collective will be hosting a two-week exhibition at a gallery on the city's 24 Portland Place.

The exhibit will kick off on Saturday, June 1, continuing until the 14th.

Carlisle-based artist, Daniel Ibbotson, who created Proseed Collective during the pandemic to give a boost to local artists, said: “I’ve just had a solo exhibition in Carlisle and the response was brilliant.

“This one is different with it being a group exhibition, we’ll just test the water up here and see what the reaction is. We're hoping there may be opportunities that emerge for different artists exhibiting in Edinburgh.

“We’ve got some artists who haven’t featured in Venice go on display which is great,” he said.

Not limited to just wall hangings, the exhibition will also boast sculptures and ceiling art pieces.

Another highlight of the exhibition is a portrait of Ukrainian President Zelensky crafted from plastic bullets by Carlisle artist Andrew Watson.

“The gallery owner is Ukrainian, so we had to have Andrew bring up his Zelensky piece,” Daniel said.

The opening night will be celebrated with an event between 5-8pm on Saturday (June 1).

After a hectic but successful start to the year for the Proseed Collective, Daniel plans to hand over future event organisation to other artists while he takes a breather.

“It’s been a fantastic year but I’ll be taking a rest after this one.

"I’ll be handing over the responsibility to some of the other artists to develop their own projects to keep the Proseed momentum going.

“It doesn’t mean I’ll disappear and hideaway as I can help but it’ll be on a less intense basis, I’ve got to get back to my day job,” he said.
