A HEALTH and wellbeing event has taken place in Workington, with many heading down to enjoy some fun in the sun.
Workington Town Council hosted a 'Reach Out' wellbeing event in Vulcan Park, Workington yesterday, May 31 with many local organisations turning out to showcase what there is to offer in the town's health and wellbeing sector.
The sun shone as many families enjoyed time in the park with each other, taking part in the whole host of activities on offer.
Neil Schofield, mayor of Workington said: "We have picked an absolutely fantastic day for it, we have got lots and lots of brilliant organisations that are here to support people, to encourage people to talk to each other, to be kind and have mindfulness.
"I picked a card up that said go for a slow walk, and being able to slow yourself down and have that little time for yourself is really important for your mental well-being."
As well as mindfulness classes, the day also saw yoga demonstrations, meditation, a climbing wall and sports as well as many other activities and organisations showcasing what they have to offer in the wellbeing sector.
Mike Glaister, from Andy's Man Club said: "We were here 12 months ago and it was one of the best events we did all year, so as soon as it came up it was a no brainer, we were straight here, we wanted to be here.
"We love everything we do and we love the fact that Workington Town Council is backing us and supporting us."
The Melissa bus was also on hand to provide free advice and health check-ups for attendees throughout the day, as part of the NHS initiative.
Jackie, a social prescriber based at Workington hospital said: "It's lovely to be here, it's just nice to get everyone together in one space and provide a nice day for people to come and get some more information about what's going on to support the community.
"There is lots of different organisations here with mental health which is really important for all ages."
