IN this edition of nostalgia, we are looking back at Morton Community Centre  throughout the years.

Morton Community Centre, known as The Manor is a listed building of which the exterior has retained its historical appearance dating back to 1780. In front of the house is a ha-ha, a ditch built to keep grazing animals out of the garden.

In early 1900, the site was an earlier farmhouse before becoming a manor belonging to the Chance family; with 2 storeys; set in its own grounds laid out by Gilpin, the landscape gardener.

Sir Robert Chance who lived here for many years gave this house and the surrounding park to the citizens of Carlisle as a Community Centre in 1944; he died in December 1960 and the centre was opened 29 April 1965.
