A PARAGLIDER has been found dead in the Lake District, following reports he had gone missing over the weekend.
Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team, Keswick were called out to Robinson on Sunday, June 2 alongside Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team, Cumbria Police, and Lake District Mountain Rescue searchdogs following reports a paraglider had gone missing.
After spotting the paraglider on a gill above Buttermere, efforts were made to reach the pilot who was declared dead at the scene.
In a statement on social media, Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team said: "Cockermouth MRT requested support for a search for a missing paraglider pilot who had launched from the summit of Robinson.
"As Keswick team were assembling, a paraglider canopy was spotted in a gill above Buttermere. Members from the Keswick, Cockermouth, and Wasdale converged on the location but tragically the pilot was declared dead at the scene.
"A complex recovery operation commenced to retrieve the man’s body.
"Our deepest thoughts and sympathies are with the man’s family and friends."
