A MEDIEVAL festival returned to Muncaster Castle last week. 

Over the May Half Term week, families flocked to the historic tourist attraction to enjoy the Medieval Muncaster event. 

There were a range of activities on offer throughout the week. With the addition of a medieval banquet, serving food like game pie and hog roasts.

Ewan Frost-Pennington, of Muncaster Castle, said: "It went very well, we had over four and a half thousand people visit the castle over the week and a lot of fun was had by all of the people who came.

"We incorporated the Weapons Hall so people could enjoy this as a new addition to the festival, BEE Unique had a stall, and the Cumbria Tanzania Link attended.

"There were three battles a day which emulated historic wars, kings, fools, and bards entertaining people, Soundwave came along, and other traditional attractions that we offer like tours of the castle and bird displays. 

"Another thing that we added this year was the Medieval Banquet which we held on Saturday evening. 

"We served a range of food like hog roasts, beef brisket, game pies, traditional medieval soup, and desserts.

"There were also people in character to entertain the audience. 

"We got some really good feedback and I think they enjoyed how interactive it was.

"It was a great celebration of the Weapon's Hall and this will continue to run throughout the whole season. 

"It was a great proof of concept and people are free to rent out the hall for events."
