AN ex-councillor accused of making a rude gesture towards police has had the case against him dropped.

Peter Little, 39, a former Allerdale Borough councillor, was due to face a charge of using threatening, abusive words or behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress.

He did not attend Workington Magistrates’ Court on Monday due to medical reasons and prosecutor Graeme Tindall made the decision to withdraw the matter.

It was alleged that Little had put his middle finger up to police on Main Road in Maryport on March 2.

Little, of Grasmere Terrace, Maryport, was given a suspended prison sentence in August 2021 following a tirade of abuse directed towards police following his arrest.

He was then jailed in October 2021 after making threats towards Workington MP Mark Jenkinson and Andrew Seekings, who at the time was Allerdale Council's chief executive.

Little was last before the court in February this year after saying he hoped a police officer would ‘get stabbed’ in Maryport.
