Picking up litter and keeping the streets clean is a priority for partner agencies ahead of the Appleby Horse Fair.
The Multi-Agency Coordinating Group (MASCG), created in 2008 as a combination of agencies to bring together skills and knowledge to support the Fair, has said “thank you” to the cleaning teams and street sweepers who are already out and about, keeping the streets clean in and around Appleby and Kirkby Stephen.
Acknowledgment was also given to the Environmental Health team for their thorough maintenance of verges around encampments and for their distribution of bin bags.

An additional 53 temporary litter bins are in place for this year’s Fair, as well as 49 Portaloos to supplement existing facilities and extra staff will be available at the end of the Fair to assist with the final cleanup.
This year's event runs from June 6 to 12.
If attendees see any issues, they're advised to use the Community Action Group (CAG) online form, allowing them to highlight problems for the responsive agencies.
This form does not, however, qualify for reporting crime or incidents to the police.
For non-emergencies, the police can be contacted online or by calling 101, but in emergencies, 999 should be dialled.
