IN this edition of nostalgia, we are looking back at Carlisle United's training sessions throughout the years.

Carlisle United Football Club is now over 119 years old and is steeped in history having competed at every level of the Football League pyramid since it was formed back in 1904.

Carlisle United have an existing single training pitch at Brunton Park which is very vulnerable to waterlogging. The Club have spoke about how this affects training and preparation.

The Ownership group have now put the finance in place to develop this. The intention is to create a flag-ship facility which will see the first team and Academy from U9-U18 all together working closely on the same site, at the facility to play, train and for young players to learn and develop.

The relocation of the club to the new training site will provide enhanced facilities but will also establish a seven-day-a-week operation, thereby fostering increased opportunities for young players in the community.

In this collection of photos, you can see some of the Carlisle United players training on the beach at Skinburness in 1970 and Dick Young who was the Carlisle United trainer for many years, pictured during a training session in 1977 with assistant Hughie Neil.

Other photos show Carlisle United players training at Silloth in January 1964, and Carlisle United's manager Alan Ashman who chats to player Willie Carlin at a training session at Brunton Park.

Another photo shows Carlisle United training in the snow at Brunton Park in 1977 and Carlisle United players in 1979 who stopped for a cuppa before clearing the pitch.
