Reform UK has confirmed its candidate for Carlisle ahead of next month's general election.
Stephen Ward will represent the party in the city constituency.
He said: "Standing in the general election is a profound responsibility and an honour.
"It means being willing to represent the voices of the people, to advocate for their needs, and to work tirelessly to improve our community.
"It also means holding oneself accountable and ensuring that promises made during the campaign are fulfilled."
Mr Ward has had a varied career from working in both Essex and the Metropolitan Police, owning a business, and serving as an armed firearms officer with the Civil Nuclear Constabulary. He also has a background in technology and holds an MSc in Network Security.
He is originally from Purley but moved to Cumbria after his sister married his friend from Egremont.
"I understand the unique challenges and opportunities our region faces, such as high rents, congestion on the roads, etc and I am committed to serving the people here," he said.
"We have the same national issues which are felt local."
Mr Ward decided to stand because he believes the community deserves better and has "had enough of political figures making promises and never fulfilling them."
He said: "I am committed to working with you and for you, ensuring that our community is safe, prosperous, and united.
"Your trust and support are essential, and I pledge to always act in your best interest.
"It's not what I want to do, it's not what big corporations want me to do, it is what the people want me to do."
