A CHINESE restaurant which closed during Covid has re-opened as a takeaway - with plans to bring back the restaurant by the end of the year.

The Golden Pheasant, a Chinese restaurant on Church St, closed during the coronavirus pandemic on March 24, 2020, and has remained closed until now.

The restaurant re-opened as a takeaway last month, with new owner Eagle Thou saying that the restaurant will re-open in around six months after work has been carried out on the inside eating space.

The Grade-II listed building was originally The Pheasant pub, and catered for the locals and biscuit factory workers.

In the 1950s it was home to Carlisle Jazz Club.
