More than 200 babies were born in hospital across North and West Cumbria in May according to the latest figures. 

There were 226 babies born across North Cumbria Integrated Care (NCIC) hospitals in May.

A spokesperson for NCIC said: "There were 114 girls and 112 boys and two sets of twins. The busiest day at the West Cumberland Hospital was May 10 with 7 births and the busiest day at the Cumberland Infirmary was May 14 with 8 births.

"Congratulations to all the new parents and carers."

Amidst the rising number of whooping cough cases across the country, NCIC have advised all parents to vaccinate their children as soon as they are eligible.
