NATIONAL charity, Family Action, launched the ‘Make Happy Memories’ campaign to help families create memories with events throughout May and June.
One such event was the free family fun day at Botcherby Community Centre in Carlisle, this week, for over 200 families from the community.
Family Action is committed to supporting individuals and families through times of change, challenge, and crisis.
The charity’s ‘Make Happy Memories’ campaign incorporates a fund to enable Family Action services to organise special days out and events for the families they work with.
In Carlisle, Family Action operates a 0-19 child and family support service, providing group and one-to-one support, advice, and activities for local families.
Family Action service manager, Sarah Briggs, expresses her delight at the success of the Family Fun Day: “It is so important that we are able to provide these events for the communities in Carlisle.
"We have been able to secure additional funding from the Family Action Make Happy Memories Campaign in order to provide more activities for the families who attended the event.
"On the day it was wonderful to see families spending time with each other and taking part in the activities without the worry or pressure of creating picture-perfect memories.”
Most of all the families enjoyed each other's company and made memories that they may otherwise not have been able to make.
A parent who attended the fun day said: “Thank you so much for running this event today. I have four children and getting out to do things with them can be a challenge.
"Knowing this was on today was a relief as I knew I could come along with them all and have some fun. We will definitely be attending more of your events in the future.”
Sue Rogers, head of Practice Development at Family Action, emphasises the importance of family bonds and the pressures families can face to create the perfect family get-together: "Families are facing so many pressures right now and creating a picture-perfect family outing may feel simply out of reach for many time-poor parents."
