Carlisle's Green Party hopes to bring "a different voice" to Cumberland Council ahead of the Harraby North by-election at the end of the month

Peri Conner has announced that she will be standing for the Green Party in the by-election which is set to take place on June 27.

The seat opened up following the death of longstanding councillor Cyril Weber in April.

Peri hopes to be "a different voice with fresh ideas and perspectives" that provides balance on the Labour majority council.

She said: "It’s not good to have one party dominant everything. If I’m voted in as Harraby North councillor, I’ll work hard to be a strong and independent voice for our community."

“I live in the ward and care what happens to people here. I’d be proud to give people a voice in the council”.

One of the issues that residents have raised as a concern to Peri is the bus services.

She said: “It’s a huge source of stress for people, they’re often late or don’t turn up at all. If elected I’ll make Stagecoach accountable and push the council to act."

The candidates standing for election in Harraby North are: Rob Currie (Conservative), Justin McDermott (Labour), Sarah Wills (Liberal Democrat), and Peri Conner (Green Party).
