A DRUG-DRIVER who was over the limit for a cocaine derivative has been banned from the roads for a year.
Police stopped a Fiat Punto being driven on James Street in Workington on the afternoon of January 26.
The driver was identified as Jack Stuart, 19, and officers believed he was under the influence of a substance, Workington Magistrates’ Court heard.
Pamela Fee, prosecuting, said the defendant tested positive for cocaine and was arrested and taken to the police station.
A blood test showed he had 188mcg of Benzoylecgonine – the body breakdown product for cocaine – per litre of blood. The specified limit is 50mcg.
Stuart, who was not legally represented, had nothing to say about the offence.
The defendant, of Main Road, High Harrington, Workington, pleaded guilty to driving a motor vehicle with a proportion of a specified controlled drug above the specified limit.
Magistrates imposed a 12-month driving ban and fined Stuart £120. He must also pay £85 costs and a £48 victim surcharge.
