TWO hikers coming down Scafell Pike on a rainy evening sparked an emergency response.

After being alerted by Cumbria Police on June 9, The Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team (MRT) came to the aid of the pair, one of whom was reported as "very tired", raising concerns they may not return to their vehicle before nightfall.

Limited details were initially gathered due to a poor mobile signal.

However, about half an hour into the operation, a successful phone call revealed the pair were making "reasonable progress" and no help was needed.

10 Wasdale team members were involved in the 3-hour callout.
