Carlisle Trades Union Council (CTUC) is set to stage a protest calling for a ceasefire in Gaza in Carlisle's city centre this Saturday (June 15).

The protest will take place between 12pm and 1pm next to the entrance to The Lanes Shopping Centre near Primark.

This action follows CTUC's regular attendance at weekly vigils organised by the local arm of the Palestine Solidarity Campaign (PSC) since the start of the most recent conflicts in Israel and Gaza.

Nationwide, 14 UK trade unions affiliated with the PSC, have rallied their members to join the substantial demonstrations that have occurred, criticising the actions of the Israeli regime.

They assert that the widespread killing of over 37,000 Palestinian civilians, in addition to attacks on health facilities, refugee camps, schools, and places of worship, constitute atrocities against the Palestinian people.

Many UK trade unions believe that the scale and range of actions committed by the Israeli regime constitute genocide against the Palestinian people.

At the same time, they have condemned the tragic killing of 1,200 Israeli civilians by Hamas on October 7th, 2023.

As UK trade unions have played a key part nationally in calling for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, CTUC believes that it is appropriate to hold a local protest with a trade union focus with this same demand.

Carlisle Trades Union Council is the local body which brings together reps from the different trade union branches in the Carlisle area.
