YOUNGSTERS have been tackling a dog poo problem around the paths leading to their school and are urging residents to take care of their town.
Pupils at St Herbert’s C of E Primary School in Keswick were alerted to the issue by school council leader, Sarah Renton and set to work straight away.
They discussed what they could do and decided to write an open letter and have created posters, which have been hung along the school perimeter wall.
Their letter says: “Our school has realised that along the paths leading around our school, there is a lot of dog poo to the sides and sometimes in the middle of the path.
“We have made a few posters which we are going to hang up around our school, asking people if they will kindly pick up their dog’s business.
"We are looking at ways to raise money to be able to build a dog-poo-bag-stand outside our school gates, so if you are walking past our school and you need a dog poo bag, you would be able to take one.
“Huge thanks to Keswick Groomers who have kindly agreed to donate some dog poo bags to our cause. We really appreciate it.”
Michael Craig, headteacher, said: “I am very proud of the difference our school councillors want to make. This is an ongoing issue for the town and we want everyone to help us ensure that Keswick is a clean and amazing place for us all to live.”
