A MOTORIST with cannabis in his vehicle denied having the drug but then confessed to police, a court heard.
Oliver Scott, 21, was stopped by officers while driving a Suzuki vehicle in Seaton, Workington, on the evening of January 20.
Pamela Fee, prosecuting at Workington Magistrates’ Court, said police could smell cannabis in the vehicle but Scott denied having the drug.
He then confessed to having some cannabis in the vehicle. Police found a quantity of the drug, with a value of £10. Scott admitted the cannabis was for himself.
Claire Kirkpatrick, defending, said: “It’s a guilty plea at the first opportunity. He cooperated with officers at the roadside.
“He has learned his lesson.”
Scott, of Row Brow, Dearham, Maryport, pleaded guilty to possessing a Class B drug.
He was fined £230 and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £92 victim surcharge.
An order was made for the forfeiture and destruction of the drugs.
