A SELECTION of products handcrafted in the county are being unveiled throughout the summer to help celebrate Cumbria Tourism’s 50th anniversary and raise money for its new charitable fund.

Already launched is Hawkshead Brewery’s special anniversary-themed ‘Cumbrian Gold’.

As well as a 330ml bottle of the new ‘golden’ lager, cask and kegs of Cumbrian Gold are available for the hospitality sector – enabling tourism businesses to offer their customers the celebratory tipple and throw their weight behind the fundraising effort too.
The managing director of Hawkshead Brewery, Susan Crabtree, said: “Cumbria Tourism plays a vital role in boosting the economy of this fantastic area, and as a local business we’re incredibly supportive of all the work that they do. We’re delighted to collaborate on the launch of this limited-edition Cumbrian Gold lager, for which we will donate 10p from the sale of each bottle sold to the 50th anniversary charity fund.
“This will all go towards providing financial support for those looking to pursue careers in the tourism industry in our county, which we’re very pleased to encourage.”
Meanwhile, Lakeland Artisan has produced a 20cl bottle of a special Damson Yan Gin, blending the richness of Cumbria’s finest damsons with carefully selected botanicals.
The most recently launched 50th anniversary product is Fell Explorer, a refreshing pale ale from Bowness Bay Brewery, which is available only in casks.
Crafted with high-quality, sustainable English ingredients, Fell Explorer is now available to enjoy in bars throughout the Lake District.
Shed One Distillery have produced a limited edition 50th anniversary botanical spirit called Spirit of Cumbria.

In this case, it’s not a gin – which relies on juniper as the main botanical – but the process is very similar.
Some of the Cumbria Tourism team even had the chance to visit the former cowshed in Ulverston for a special masterclass to help make the final blend.

They got an insight into the foraging process for fresh botanicals, chose a selection of freshly picked and dried botanicals to use and helped produce the perfect 50th anniversary potion.
Also in the pipeline is a new ‘Golden Chutney’ from Hawkshead Relish, to be launched at Cumbria Tourism’s AGM in mid-June.
The artisan producer says the new chutney has a light, fragrant taste and will go well with cheese, pork pies, cold meats and salads.

Fifty pence from every jar will go towards the 50th Anniversary Charitable Fund.
