Political parties have been setting their stall out on how to fix the dentist crisis in their manifesto.

People in Cumbria are having to travel huge distances to visit an NHS dentist and it was announced this week that a Bupa dentist branch in Brampton is set to close.

The Green Party have said that they will push for a new contract for NHS dentists that ensures everybody who needs an NHS dentist has access to one.

They also said that they would campaign for funding to allow community hubs and primary care to provide a roll-out of free dental nursing for children and those on low incomes.

Labour has promised to create 100,000 extra dental appointments for children, in a bid to clear backlogs in England.

The new appointments will be for urgent and emergency care and on evenings and weekends, according to the party.

The Conservatives launched a plan earlier in 2024 and they will offer dentists cash incentives to take on extra NHS patients to help more people be seen.

The Liberal Democrats would bring dentists backt to NHS from the private sector by fixing the ‘broken NHS dental contract’.
