Pupils from St Cuthbert's Primary School will share the history and stories of Wigton in an upcoming exhibition.

Students in years five and six at the school have been working with artists Helen Walsh and Alex Jakob-Whitworth as well as The Laal Collective to create pieces of art that are inspired by local stories and history.

The artwork will be displayed in the Celebrating Wigton exhibition during Wigton Carnival's 25th anniversary celebrations.

Ann-Marie Handford, headteacher at the school, said: “The work is all about celebrating Wigton and is an extension of the Laal Collective's 'Stories from the Kitchen Table' project funded through The National Lottery People’s project.

“The project has not only involved our pupils but also The Wigton Food Pantry and Inglewood care home, developing stories of Wigton and exploring its history.

“The children have creatively interpreted these stories and local history through printing, embroidery, and other visual arts, developing their skills and creating lots of exciting work in the process.”

The exhibition will be open at Barton Laws on June 22 from 10am-4pm.
