A CATAPULT has been seized following reports of children 'causing suffering' to wildlife at a city pond this weekend.

Cumbria Police seized a catapult following the reports of children causing suffering to wildlife at Hammond's Pond in Carlisle yesterday afternoon, June 15.

One of the group was seen using the catapult on CCTV, with police saying 'further intervention' will be carried out with the young person.

A statement from Carlisle police on social media said: "Following reports of children causing suffering to wildlife at Hammond's Pond this afternoon, officers from the neighbourhood policing team have attended and using new CCTV capability have identified the group responsible.

"One of the group was seen to use a catapult on the CCTV, this catapult was located and has been seized.

"Further intervention will be carried out with the young person who owned up to using the catapult and the rest of the group received words of advice from the attending officers.

"Please continue to report any incidents in the area."
