EIGHT Cumbrians have became millionaires through Premium Bonds since the competition was first started back in the 1950s.

National Savings and Investment's (NS&I) Premium Bonds have made 532 millionaires since it drew its first £1million jackpot winner in April 1994 - with Cumbria being a fairly lucky area for winners.

Money Week has revealed that eight Cumbrians have been the lucky winners of Premium Bonds worth £1million pounds since the scheme drew its first millionaire back in the 1990s.

Premium Bonds are a government-backed savings product where you participate in a monthly prize draw, and can now bag between £25 and £1 million tax-free cash.

NS&I ran its first Premium Bonds prize draw back in 1957 when the size of the jackpot was £1,000. 37 years later, in April 1994, the prize pot increased to £1million.

The luckiest county for winners on the Premium Bonds has been revealed as Surrey - with 29 million pound winners since 1994.
