A COMMUNITY choir is looking for singers to take part in a choir for a new production.
A production of Steel by Lee Mattinson is set to be performed at Theatre by the Lake, before embarking on a tour of the West Coast of Cumbria in October 2024.
The show will feature a choir made up of local voices, who will work with a composer to co-create an original song.
The group is looking for people to get involved in this exciting opportunity; people who enjoy singing and meeting new people, and are interested in exploring the identity of Workington, its steel heritage, and life on the West Coast today.
Lee Mattinson, writer of Steel said: "Steel is a play about Workington and asks what hope looks like in a de-industrialised landscape left to rot behind the fells. It is also a play about its people – their brilliance and complexities, ambitions and insecurities.
"And so it feels only right that the final moment of the show is theirs – a space in which the community choir responds to its central questions with a collectively written song. I already know it’s going to be the best scene."
The choir will rehearse at The Carnegie in Workington from July to September before recording the piece that will feature in the finale of the show. It will then be performed live for two performances at the Carnegie on November 2 and 3.
