SWIMMING clubs in Cumbria are being urged to take advantage of a £50k fund for grassroots sports.

The fund was launched by Fibrus Broadband and has helped secure the future of competitions run by a Cumbrian swimming club.

Since it was launched last year, around 20 organisations in Cumbria have received grants, including Copeland Amateur Swimming Club which had their starting system fail, leaving coaches fearing they would be unable to host any of their popular competitions.

But a grant of £1000 from the Fibrus Play It Forward Fund enabled them to invest in the equipment they needed to allow their major events to go ahead.

Club official Mark Holliday said: “The donation came just in time for the Cumbria Winter Meet in December. Subsequently, we held the Copeland Griffin Gala this year and have another one planned in a couple of weeks."

Linda McMillan, chief people officer at Fibrus, added: “Investing in local communities is one of our core missions at Fibrus and our Play it Forward Fund allows us to play a vital role in improving the health and wellbeing of children."
