Police are investigating the burglary and damage of a cafe.
Cumbria police said they were called to Long Lane in Carlisle at 12.40am today (June 18) to reports of people trying to break into Cakes and Ale, the cafe linked to Bookends on Castle Street.
A police spokesperson said it was reported that burglars entered the cafe to steal items before causing damage to a nearby business a short time later.
A post on Cakes and Ale's Facebook page uploaded this morning read: "Unfortunately, due to criminal damage which occurred at our premises overnight, we will be opening at a later time today.
"Please bear with us while our staff deal with the clean up and assist the police."
