AS summer continues, ice cream sellers across North Cumbria will be making a bustling trade.

There really is no better way to cool off than to enjoy an ice-cold sweet treat from one of the county's ice cream vendors.

Here at Newsquest, we've put together a list of some of the most popular ice cream shops in the area.

Of course, when eating out, it's always best to know that the place you're visiting has a good hygiene rating.

We've searched the Food Standards Agency website to show you the hygiene ratings for ice cream shops across North Cumbria.

Hygiene ratings sit on a scale between zero to five, with a three and above being deemed ‘satisfactory’ and five stars ‘very good’.

On the other end of the scale a rating of two means that improvement is ‘necessary', a one states that ‘major improvement is necessary' and a zero is ‘urgent improvement necessary.’ Any restaurant that has been issued a rating of 0 is at risk of being shut down until changes are made.

These regulations are implemented by the Food Standards Agency which performs routine checks of food vendors to ensure they are operating safely. Checks include food storage, preparation, and overall cleanliness of the vendor.
