A MOTORIST accused of transporting amphetamine worth up to £80,000 along the motorway through Cumbria has denied any wrongdoing.

Steve Little, 45, appeared before a district judge at Carlisle’s Rickergate court, where he denied possessing the Class B drug with intent to supply. He also pleaded not guilty to possessing £4,000 of “criminal cash.”

Prosecutors say the offences were committed as the defendant was driving southwards in the Southwaite area on the M6 on June 17. The drugs offence allegedly involves an eight-kilogram consignment of amphetamine.

After hearing an outline of the allegations from prosecutor George Shelley, District Judge John Temperley said the case should be sent to the city’s crown court, given the seriousness of what is alleged.

The defendant, of Riddell Avenue, Dumfries, was granted conditional bail until his appearance at the crown court on July 17.

This was conditional on the defendant continuing to live at his current address and not entering England and Wales.

He can, however, leave Scotland if he has written confirmation of an appointment with his solicitor, said the judge. The defendant spoke only to confirm his personal details and to enter his not guilty pleas.
