A Cumbrian brass festival has been planned bringing together more than 10 brass bands at Lowther Castle.

On Saturday, July 13 and Sunday, July 14 2024, Drum and Brass will bring together 13 brass bands from across Cumbria for a magnificent two day festival.

The family friendly event promises to bring the joy of brass music to a wider audience and entry will be free to allow as many people as possible the chance to enjoy the day.

The weekend will see long established bands from the county entertain audiences with a mix of traditional and modern pieces, promoting this iconic genre of music.

The event will also focus on promoting the benefits and accessibility of local community music groups by showcasing a selection of beginner bands and youth bands.

There will also be workshops and ‘have a go’ sessions that will encourage visitors to get hands on and try making some music themselves.

Drum and Brass CEO, Julie Hoggarth, said: “In a world where music education is being cut to the bone, brass bands are in communities at grass roots level and can open music up to a wider audience.”
